Technological Requirements:
Some ultra-thin laptops only have USB-C ports available to make the devices super thin (example: newer Macbook Air). If your laptop does not have a headphone jack, you will need this dongle or comparable:

This will provide a headphone jack for audio, HDMI for video, and has an extra USB-C port for charging, as well.
If your device has a USB-C and headphone jack built in, you will need this dongle or comparable:

For some older MacBooks, you will need this dongle (minidisplay port adapter) or comparable:
