About the Conference

The PAAL International Conference is the annual meeting of the Pan-Pacific Association of Applied Linguistics. The conference invites researchers, educators, and practitioners working in all areas of applied linguistics to present their work, exchange ideas, and engage in academic dialogue across the Pan-Pacific region and beyond.

Conference Topics

PAAL welcomes submissions in all areas of applied linguistics, broadly defined. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

While the language of the conference is English, research on any language is welcome.

 

1. Submission Guidelines

  • Abstracts should be 300 words or fewer.
  • Please use the abstract template available here:

  • Abstracts will undergo double-blind peer review. Accepted abstracts will be included in the 2026 PAAL International Conference Book.
  • Abstracts must be submitted through Oxford Abstracts:

  • When submitting, fill in all required information and click “Submit.” After the preview page appears, click “Continue” to confirm your submission. You will receive an email titled “Successful Submission” once the process is completed.

 

2. Important Dates

  • Abstract submission deadline: February 15 (Sun), 2026, at 23:59 (GMT+9)
  • Notification of acceptance: March 29 (Sun), 2026
  • Early-bird registration deadline: July 31 (Fri), 2026
  • Regular registration deadline: August 19 (Wed), 2026

 

3. Presentation Modes

Oral Presentation

·         20 minutes for presentation + 10 minutes for Q&A

 

Student Oral Presentation

·         20 minutes for presentation + 10 minutes for Q&A

·         Presenters in this category are automatically eligible for the PAAL Graduate Student Award: Excellent Presentation as a Young Scholar.

 

Poster Presentation

·         90 minutes for Q&A
