This 16th International Translation Conference will be held at Crystal Crown Hotel, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia from the 8th to the 10th of August, 2017. The Faculty of Languages and Linguistics and the Academy of Malay Studies, University of Malaya will co-host this conference with the support of the following co-organizers: Malaysian Translators Association (MTA), the Institute of Language and Literature (DBP), Malaysian Institute of Translation and Books (ITBM) and Perbadanan Kota Buku (PKB).


This conference focuses on the value of translation by looking at how it facilitates intra-, inter- and cross-cultural communication between diverse social groups, and how it addresses the social needs of complex societies. Through the sharing of knowledge, we hope to bring to the fore the value of translation by discussing related issues with the aim of contributing to translation research in a variety of fields, such as Business, Culture, Education, Science and Technology.

The sub-themes include, but are not limited to:

· Translation and ethics

· Translation and politics

· Translation and social issues

· Translation and technology

· Translation for children

· Translation for education

· Translation for religion

· Interpreting for society

At ICT-16 you will gain valuable insights from our 4 keynote speakers who come from a diverse background of knowledge and experience in translation theory and practice.

Prof Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Hjh Asmah Haji Omar, University of Malaya

Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Hjh Asmah Haji Omar is a Professor of Malay Linguistics at University of Malaya. She has produced 45 academic books on linguistics and translated the Oxford Compact Advanced Learners Dictionary (2007) into Malay.

Professor Kirsten Malmkjær, University of Leicester

Professor Malmkjær’s research interests include translation theory, translation studies, translation and language, translation and philosophy, and Hans Christian Andersen’s language and literary production in Danish and in translations into English. She is the author of Linguistics and the Language of Translation (Edinburgh 2005), Translation in Undergraduate Degree Programmes (Amsterdam and Philadelphia 2004) and Translation in Language Teaching (Manchester 1998).

Professor Anil K Dhingra, Jawaharlal Nehru University

Professor Anil Dhingra is a philologist, translator and interpreter. He has published 13 books and several articles on themes of Hispanic studies. He has worked as a simultaneous interpreter in Spanish, Hindi & English at more than 140 international conferences.

Mr. A Palaniappan, Language Services Department, Parliament of Singapore

Mr A Palaniappan is currently the Head Specialist of the English/Tamil language at the Singapore Parliament. He provides simultaneous interpretation services during parliament sittings and at other national events such as the National Day Rally.
