Call for papers

The Australian Review of Applied Linguistics (ARAL) is calling for expressions of interest to edit its Special Issue in 2017. The Special Issue is the second issue of the year, and it is organized by a guest editor around a topic of interest to applied linguists. It should have relevance to the Australian context but need not be exclusively focused on Australia, and contributors can be from anywhere in the world. The 2016 Special Issue is on Post Graduate Writing in a Globalised World; while past issues have covered topics such as Teachers' Plurilingual Identities in Transnational Contexts (2015, edited by Clea Schmidt and Antionette Gagné), linguistic diversity and social inclusion in Australia (2014, edited by Ingrid Piller), as English instruction for Creole-speaking children (2013, edited by Gillian Wigglesworth), school achievement in Asian languages (2012, edited by Angela Scarino and Cathie Elder), learning and teaching of Australian indigenous languages (2011, edited by Michael Walsh), sociocognitive approaches to second language acquisition (2010, edited by Bronwen Dyson), and aviation English (2009, edited by Ute Knoch and John Read). 1.  A brief, overall outline of the topic, including its significance in the field,
  2. article titles with abstracts and authors.

The issue should consist of a brief 2-3 page editorial, 4-6 papers of about 6-8000 words each, and 2-3 book reviews, total no more than 40,000 words The guest editor recruits contributors, receives their papers, and organizes the review process. S/he serves as the first reviewer for all papers and appoints either one second reviewer for all papers or several individual reviewers. The guest editor submits the set of accepted papers to the ARAL editors, who makes the final decision on publication. The approximate timeline for the 2017 Special Issue is as follows:
