What is this virtual event?
The AAAL 2021 Annual Conference is an international conference which brings together scholars from the U.S., Canada, and over 50 other countries worldwide who are interested in and actively contribute to the multi-disciplinary field of applied linguistics. The AAAL Conference will draw more than 1,000 attendees who promote principled approaches to language-related concerns, including language education, acquisition and loss, bilingualism, discourse analysis, literacy, rhetoric and stylistics, language for special purposes, psycholinguistics, second and foreign language pedagogy, language assessment, and language policy and planning.
We are offering four (4) days of engaging scholarly and educational content.
The AAAL Conference is designed to provide actionable ideas and state-of-the-art programming, as well as tools, solutions, and technologies that will empower you to take directly back to your colleges and universities, home, and community to impact change. Come ready to learn, network, and do!
Who is putting on this event?
The American Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL) is a professional society of scholars from the U.S., Canada, and over 50 additional countries. Members use a wide variety of theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches to address a broad range of language-related issues in order to understand the role of language in the lives of individuals and conditions in society. The mission of AAAL is to facilitate the advancement and dissemination of knowledge and understanding regarding these language-related issues in order to improve the lives of individuals and conditions in society.
Why is there a registration fee?
In order to put on a large, high-quality conference such as this, AAAL contracts with a commercial vendor. There are significant fees associated with this as well as substantial staff time.
Given these many technology and time-related expenses, the cost to register for the virtual conference is the same as the cost to register for the in-person conference. The cost to attend, however, is much lower. Remember that by participating virtually, you won't need to book travel and lodging accommodations.
Do I have to be an AAAL member to register for the 2021 Conference?
You do not need to be an AAAL member to attend the 2021 AAAL Conference! However, AAAL members do receive a discount off of their registration fee.
