This strand deals with theories and associated empirical research focusing on the interface between language and cognition. Some of the research related to this strand is experimental (involving, e.g., psycholinguistic or brain-imaging methods), but the strand is open to a range of disciplines, theoretical backgrounds, and analytical frameworks. Research presented in this strand tends to be interdisciplinary, comparative, and multi-methodological. Possible topics could include (but are not limited to) speech perception, priming effects on language processing, the relationship between attention (including eye movements), awareness and language processing, Thinking for Speaking, conceptual transfer, the cognitive dimensions of language acquisition, the cognitive advantages or disadvantages of bilingualism, the relationship between cognitive abilities (including attention and executive control) and language abilities, the role of working memory in language acquisition and bilingualism, and cognitive perspectives on language pedagogy.
