We are very excited about a feature of the 2016 AAAL Conference that we are calling “Professional Opportunities Sessions.” These are invited panel presentations that are not about research in applied linguistics. Rather, the panelists will address issues of possible interest with regard to professional development endeavors, such as publishing and applying for grants.
As of this writing, the following titles are confirmed for the 2016 Professional Opportunities sessions:
An Introduction to Academic Book Publishing
Applying for and Nominating Colleagues for AAAL Awards
How to Write and Publish a Scholarly Monograph: Converting the PhD Thesis into a Book
Increasing the Visibility of Applied Linguistics: Workshop on Communicating with the Media and the General Public
Libraries and the Future of Applied Linguistic Research
Publishing in Applied Linguistic Journals: A Meeting with Journal Editors
Research Funding Opportunities Beyond Your Home Institution
Writing Effective Proposals for AAAL Conferences
More information about these panel presentations will be posted on the AAAL websitein the weeks ahead.
The Professional Opportunities Sessions will be scheduled during the noon hour so they don’t conflict with any of the academic sessions. There will be approximately 15 to 20 minutes after the morning plenaries when conference goers can purchase a quick and convenient lunch at “The Marketplace” in the hotel lobby area before the Professional Opportunities Sessions start. Participation in these particular sessions is free to anyone registered for the conference.
