Solidarity Awards

AAAL will give three US$1,000 travel awards for travel to the 2006 Conference in Montreal.  Each award also carries a waiver of the conference registration fee. These awards are for scholars participating in the conference program from parts of the world where economies make it difficult to travel to a conference in North America.

You are eligible to apply for a travel award if:

  1. You appear on the program either as a paper or poster author or co-author, as colloquium organizer or co-organizer or as a colloquium discussant, and

  2. You live and work in a part of the world where general economic circumstances would normally be an obstacle for travel to international learned conferences.

To apply send the following to aaal06@iastate.edu by April 21, 2006:

  1. A letter of application explaining your need and interest in attending the conference

  2. Your CV showing evidence of academic excellence and/or promise

  3. A letter of support from a colleague who is acquainted with your work in applied linguistics

  4. A copy of the abstract accepted to AAAL-CAAL/ACLA 2006

  5. A proposed budget for the expenses

Evaluation criteria for selection will include the following factors:

  • The quality of materials submitted

  • The clarity of benefit to be gained from participation (to awardee and others in the home country)

  • Preference for first-time AAAL presenters who are authors or co-authors of papers; colloquium organizers; or poster presenters
